We held our executive meeting in New Glasgow on June 17th 2025. The Long Term Care and  Bargaining Team along with the lead table were present. Most of you are aware that St. Vincent’s Nursing Home is the Lead Table. We have some news.  We now have 6 dates for bargaining.  The dates are August 14th and 15th, September 4th, 5th  and the 24th and 25th. As of today approximately  25 nursing homes have their Essential Service Agreements (ESA) completed. If your locals ESA is not completed please do ASAP.  There’s more work to be done by our locals if your trustee reports have not been completed and sent to National please do so immediately. If locals are needing access to strike funds trustee reports must be completed.

We have a save the date for our annual meeting October 21st and 22nd. This is the new fall date. This will be a bargaining meeting for Community Services. There will be other items to cover for Long Term Care.

As you can see our webpage is being updated. We have a list of affiliated locals for both sectors. If your local is not listed ask your executive to make sure that our information correct and reach out to Tammy Gorton our secretary treasurer to have your local  added.  There will be a new email address of this webpage. Once that is a attached if you have suggestions feel free to reach out.  Once the page is completed it will allow your executives to submit reports of what is happening in your local to keep us informed of what is going on. We still have our Facebook page. All Updates will be provided as a reminder to see notices on our webpage ltcc-ns.cupe.ca

Long Term Care Bargaining Update

The committee met with the new Long Term Care Coordinator, Tammy Martin, to discuss the current state of long term care and the progress of bargaining. Together, with the support of the Human Rights Representative Jenna Brookfield, we updated Tammy on how things are going in the sector and established a new and improved strategic bargaining plan. We set goals regarding the lead table protocol for St. Vincent’s (CUPE 1082), the function of the bargaining committee, and planned future educational workshops for locals.

We understand that consistent communication is of the utmost importance to our fellow members, so we committed to providing more frequent updates. We also plan to hold more virtual and in person meetings so that locals can attend and update each other and the committee on the status of their Essential Service Agreements (ESAs) and local bargaining.

This update is the first of many to come as we strive for improved communication with our fellow members. If you have any questions, please reach out to your local’s president, your Area VP, or your local’s servicing representative.
